I bought this to move my VHS tapes to disk.
I got video to work out of the box on my Windows 7 system (I think update the drivers, its been 6 weeks). I use 740×480 at highest quality and the highest frame rate (9500 for me).
Audio through the EasyCap never worked – way to much ugly background noise. After a month of playing around, I read from someone else to run the audio through the microphone jack. All is now well.

Took a chance on this little $9 gadget after reading mixed reviews. I’m running Linux and the Easycap makes no claims to support Linux. That’s a shame as it works extremely well!
I got a driver from here:
[. . . ]
I’m now transferring old VHS tapes to the computer with no issues. Picture and sound quality is surprisingly good. Definitely much better than I expected.
For reference I found these options to work well for encoding:
mencoder [. . . ]
This de-interlaces the video and saves it in a raw video format. I tried transcoding to x264 in real time but had some dropped frames. Instead I save in raw format and then transcode over to x264 with:
mencoder test. raw -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=128 -ovc x264 -x264encopts bitrate=500 -audio-delay 1. 5 -o test. avi
I needed the audio delay to make audio sync properly. The resulting file is 2. 8 MB/minute.

It works, but induces a background noise on any video/audio captured. The sourceof the noise is the device, not the camera, VCR or computer.

I bought east article a few months ago because finally it wanted that a capture device video transferred our old woman homemade films to the disc, so that we& #039; it much more has them to d during time that the VHS can never last. Surprise, he didn& #039; work of t. He wasn& #039; compatible t. It decided since he was cheap to buy I& #039; subsistence of d he and waits for until it increased my computer. I finish buying a new laptop determined for the uses of the multiaverages and the edition to house current superior 64bit of Windows 7. Conjecture what, still the device doesn& #039; work of t. It is that this particular device can only work in the edition 32bit of XP, Vista, and prossibly of Windows 7. It& #039; of bad s also that I bought when it, espec. didn& #039 of the technology; t says any thing on that. Hardly ready for the use! Well, that& #039; bulletin of s. I looked for around the Internet by the days that up-to-date conductors looked for. Everything that I found was the connections of parodia which they transferred malware, or nothing. Unless you have a computer working with of the specific operating system, don& #039; t obtains east device. I can& #039; t even locates a manufacturer, so I can& #039; it makes contact them to t with enemy with in obtaining a conductor. Microsoft doesn& #039; t has any conductor, and nobody will offer the aid in this device. It& #039; s an old model, and wants it gone. Therefore, he takes my advice, déjelo pick up the dust in maker& #039; shelf of s, not his.

this is an amazing little inexpensive device. the seller will help you as he did me to work out the technical details i had. im 50 and have trouble with technology. the seller contacted me after i couldnt get it going and provided me with detailed instructions as again im all thumbs. now im uploading my videos of hawks attacking sparrows on my bird feeder and putting it on the web. im very happy with the product and the seller stands behind his product and supports the purchaser far beyond what most people do today. trust this seller. i do. im sure this device does a lot more than what i understand. have awesome videos of sharp shinned hawks attacking sparrows. wonderful.
